Jongyoon Baik studies the politics of East Asia, with a focus on the government-citizen relations in China and Korea. She is also interested in developing and applying quantitative methods that address data reliability issues. In her first book project, she examines China's administrative litigation system.
Her research has been supported by the American Political Science Association (DDRIG grant) and the Korea Foundation for Advanced Studies, among others.
Before joining CUHK-Shenzhen, she was a postdoctoral fellow at the Center for the Study of Contemporary China at the University of Pennsylvania. She earned her Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Chicago, where she concurrently obtained an M.S. in Statistics, becoming the first Ph.D. student in the Department to do so.
