Division of Language Education
About Us
The Language Education Division (LED) provides University-core (U-Core) English instruction, modern languages teaching, and informal language learning support to our students. We offer a wide range of courses, including U-core English, second foreign languages, and Chinese as a foreign language, as well as electives in language acquisition, linguistics, literature, creative writing, and intercultural communication. We also offer a Minor in English Literature program for those with a keen interest in this area.
LED is composed of the U-core English Teaching Team, the Modern Languages Teaching Team, and the Self-Access Language Learning Centre (SALL Centre).
The U-core English Teaching Team oversees the planning and execution of undergraduate English education throughout the university. In addition to improving students’ foundational academic English skills, the team has designed English for specific purposes courses that align with students’ majors, covering areas such as business, science and engineering, medicine, social sciences, language, and music.
The Modern Languages Teaching Team offers students the chance to learn foreign languages other than English, such as French, Spanish, Japanese, and Korean. The team offers Chinese language and culture courses to international students as well.
The SALL Centre complements classroom teaching by offering personalized language study support. It provides a variety of oral training courses and one-on-one writing tutoring and consulting services to enhance students’ language and communication skills.
