About Us
Since its establishment in 2018, the Applied Psychology Programme has successively set up master’s, bachelor’s and Ph.D. programmes within 4 years. Currently, there are around 300 undergraduates and 100 graduates in Applied Psychology Programme, covering three concentrations – “Development & Education”, “Organizations & Society”, and “Mental Health & Well-being” – based on lifespan development of a human. The programme aims at cultivating international talents who is equipped with critical thinking, professional knowledge and skills, and the ability of implementing research results in clinical practice. English is the medium of instruction for the programme, and high-caliber psychology professors and scholars are recruited globally for this programme, including several professors who have rich teaching experience and strong research abilities in overseas universities. Up to now, faculty members in Applied Psychology Programme have published academic papers in more than 80 international journals.
Undergraduates in Applied Psychology shall obtain no less than 120 credits before graduation, including 36 from the University Core Requirements (General English, Academic English, General Education, etc.), 72 from required and elective courses in applied psychology programme (Introduction to Psychology, Quantitative Methods and Experimental Design, Cognitive Psychology, Social Psychology, Educational Psychology, Organizational Psychology, Clinical and Counselling Psychology, Cross-Cultural Psychology, Motivation and Emotion, Memory, Cognitive Neuroscience, etc.), and 12 from free elective (Personality and Individual Differences, Positive Psychology, Psychology of Leadership and decision Making, etc.).
In addition to exchange programmes in hundred internationally renowned universities offered by the CUHK-Shenzhen, the Applied Psychology programme has signed MOU with many scientific research institutes, enterprises, and public institutions, thus providing students with platforms to dig up interest and achieve all-round development. Practical teaching bases include: Longgang Social Psychological Service Center; Longgang Education Group; Shenzhen Futian High School; Shenzhen Kangning Hospital, Longgang Central Hospital, Hithink RoyalFlush Information Network Co., Ltd.; Student Counselling Center (SHCC) at CUHK-Shenzhen; etc. Currently, the University has built 8 psychology labs – including Psychology Functional Near Infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS) Lab, Psychology Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) Lab, Psychology Biofeedback Lab, and Psychology Virtual Reality Research Lab – to support innovative research among students and faculty members.
Vision
The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen was founded upon approval by the Ministry of Education in 2014 and in accordance with the Regulations of the People’s Republic of China on Chinese-Foreign Cooperation in Running Schools. The Applied Psychology Programme follows the education philosophy of the University to explore a new path for higher education that bridges China and the world, and seek to cultivate innovative talents with a global perspective, Chinese cultural traditions and social responsibilities.
