Professor Xitao FAN
Prof. Xitao FAN is the Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Science and Presidential Chair Professor in The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (CUHK-Shenzhen).
Before he joined CUHK-Shenzhen, he was Chair Professor of Educational Psychology, and Dean of Faculty of Education, University of Macau, China, and served as the interim Vice Rector (Academic Affairs) of University of Macau. Prior to his appointments in the University of Macau, he was associate professor, full professor, and endowed chair professor (Curry Memorial Professor) in the University of Virginia (Curry School of Education), USA, and was assistant/associate professor in the Department of Psychology, Utah State University, USA. He obtained his Ph.D. (1993) in educational psychology from Texas A&M University (USA), his M.A. (1989) in TESL from the Brigham Young University (USA), and his B.A. (1982) in English language instruction from the Kunming Institute of Technology (China).
His research and teaching interests are in research methodology in education and psychology, applied quantitative methods, educational and psychological measurement, meta-analysis, structural equation modeling and applications, and inter-disciplinary research. He served as the associate editor (2000-2004) and editor (2004-2010) of the journal of “Educational and Psychological Measurement”. He is an AERA Fellow (2012; American Educational Research Association). He has been involved in numerous large-scale research projects funded by U.S. federal agencies (e.g., NSF, IES, NIH) and other funding sources, and in research projects funded by Macau government and University of Macau. He has published around 180 journal research articles and book chapters in internationally competitive outlets in education and psychology (the overwhelming majority in SSCI/SCI indexed competitive journals). His research has been widely cited by researchers/scholars internationally (e.g., Google Scholar citations > 15,000; h index = 50).
